※ If there’s one thing that is unique about Todos Santos, it has to be its scenery. This Magical Town is the gateway to the Sierra La Laguna Biosphere Reserve, boasting pine-covered mountains—the only forest in Baja California Sur—that contrast with golden-sand beaches and deep blue waters to create the perfect setting for all types of activities and sports.

Whether you’re more inclined towards less strenuous options like hiking or observing flora and fauna; something more upbeat like renting an ATV, diving or exploring the environs by bike; or if you’re an adrenalin junkie who likes to climb mountains and surf, here are some ideas to make sure your time here is an experience to be remembered.

NATURE EXPERIENCES
༅༅༅
※ Explore the Sierra La Laguna Biosphere Reserve
Hop on a 4×4 in the Historic Center of Todos Santos and set out to discover the area’s natural treasures. Other ways to enjoy the pine- and oak-covered mountains, streams and ravines are either on horseback or a walking tour. And if you have the proper equipment, you can go rock climbing, rappelling or mountain-biking. It’s also a great way to observe the region’s flora and fauna. If you’re a bird lover, try and come between October and March, when you’ll have the chance to photograph several migratory species, as well as herons, ospreys, quails, hawks and pelicans.
※ Wander off the Beaten Track
Whether you prefer to go on foot, by bicycle or ATV, Todos Santos has several tour operators that can take you to see the region’s giant cactus plants up close and observe the fauna of the semi-desert in its natural habitat, birds soaring freely overhead. And if you’re a cyclist, you can choose from routes of varying degrees of difficulty. Just be sure to take drinking water with you!

SEA ADVENTURES
༅༅༅
※ Whale Watching
Gray and humpback whales come to the Baja California peninsula between November and December to spend the winter, staying until March or April. To see them up close, several hotels in Todos Santos run tours to La Paz or Los Cabos, from where you can take a boat or catamaran out to sea. Another option is to travel to Puerto Chale (two hours from La Paz) to see gray whales, or to Los Cabos for humpback whale tours. Besides learning more about these species of giants, you’ll get to see them swim and breach before your very eyes.
※ Try Your Hand at Fishing
In Todos Santos you can try your hand at shore fishing, and deep-sea fishing tours also leave from Punta Lobos. If you come in summer, head for La Bocana de las Tunas Beach and sign up for the Fishing Tournament held during the Mango Festival. There are categories for both adults and children, so it’s the perfect chance to share a fun activity.
And if you forgot something, worry not! At BallyHoo Fishing Zone, a fishing store in Todos Santos, you can buy everything from pliers to hooks, rods, lines and reels.
※ Fun Watersports
Todos Santos is famous for its amazing surfing conditions, boasting waves that can reach as high as 52 feet, but you can also rent a kayak or canoe, try stand-up paddleboarding or, if the wind permits, go windsurfing or kitesurfing. Some of the beaches are more suited to snorkeling or diving, swimming and even bodysurfing.
If you’re looking for something more serene, how about horseback riding along the beach at sunset, a hike to take in the flora and fauna, or a visit to a turtle camp, where if it’s hatching time, you can help see the hatchlings safely to the ocean.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN ༅
※ The surf in Todos Santos can be too strong for kids, so if you need to keep them entertained a while, head for Parque Los Pinos. This public park has plenty of trees that provide shade from the sun, and a play area with climbing frames and benches. There’s also a paved area for skating and bike riding. Nearby is the handicrafts market Mercado Artesanal and a few stores and restaurants where you can eat and wind down.
